T’s Supernatural Spring Hellatus Journal

spn

Entry #4   current countdown 6 days 21 hours 54 minutes

Dear Journal,

I just can’t take it any more.

Wait.  Let me start over….

Hello Journal, how are you?  What?  Oh, the #HellaRewatch party went fine….

now… I JUST CAN’T TAKE IT ANY MORE!

I am so very relieved that next week The Boys Are Back in Town (cue Thin Lizzy).  I’ve missed Sam and Dean so very much.  I’m so excited about a new episode.

But, more than that, I’m excited about episode 20 (due to air on March 30th).  Why?  Because… OH MY CHUCK… IT’S….CHUCK!  That’s right, it’s the return of the Famdom’s favorite deity… Chuck (Rob Benedict).  I know you’ll be there, Journal.

I’d like to thank all the Rewatchers that came along for the party… thanks so much my fellow addicts.

Also, while we’re waiting on next Wednesday to hurry up and get here, I have a little something I’d like to talk to the Famdom about.  One of our own needs our help.  Our Dr. Badass, Chad Lindberg, has a Go Fund Me account set up to help his sister with legal fees to fight for custody of her son Ivan.  I feel like I know Ivan from all of Chad’s periscopes that he’s been on and because of how much Chad talks about his nephew.  If you can help, please go here and donate.  Chad tells it better than me in the video at the site, so please go have a look.

Thanks for joining me for another week in Hellatus… Thank Chuck it’s over next week!

Bates Motel SN4 EP2 – ‘Goodnight Mother’

bates1

Wow what an episode and it just keeps getting better and better each episode don’t  you agree? Let’s get down to business.

In this episode we see Norman (Freddie Highmore) start to take control from Norma (Vera Farmiga) they are losing trust in each and both suspect one an another of a horrible deed.  Emma’s father (Andrew Howard) pretty much tells Dylan (Max Thieriot) that what he dose for a living is not good enough for his beloved daughter, he tells Dylan that he believes,  he is better then that and he needs to remember the Emma (Oliva Cooke) is no longer a dying girl, she can do something with her life now, she has had her transplant. Emma gets taken off the respirator and struggles to breath on her own and starts gasping with a panicked look as her doctor calms her and she starts to breath,  talk  about on the edge of your seat… I swear I nearly passed out because I was holding my breath.

bates3

After the chat with Emma’s Dad and seeing her take her first breath Dylan starts to contemplates his future with Emma but you can clearly see the chemistry between them, meanwhile Norma is starting to come to terms with the fact Norman is becoming dangrous. Remember in episode 1 Norma askes Alex Remero (Nestor Carbonell) to marry her for insurance in order to get Norman into the Pineview Institute. Worried Norman is  dangrous Remero takes the money out that he hide in his fireplace and heads to Pineview Institute to get Norman committed when asked if he was a relative he tells Mrs Monore he is marrying Norman’s mother!

bates2

Alex calls Norma and tells her he will marry her and Norman will be addmitted to Pineview but Norman has to sign the paperwork which has been faxed to the Motel, Norman is checking a family in when the fax comes through and he is not happy. Norma tries to get him to sign the papers and he starts to flipping out,  Norma scared goes and hides to call Alex for help. Alex makes his way through the house and takes Norman into custody and leads him down to the patrol car, with Norma running after them crying and pleading with Norman to sign the paperwork as she promises him its a good place that will help him, its nothing like the county hospital he was first taken too, he finally signs the paperwork before he’s put in the patrol car and headed to Pineview Institute.

This episode was a cracker and we are starting to see the dynamics between Norma and Norman change, he is becoming the dominant one and it seems Norma is starting to lose her hold over him. I can’t wait for what episode 3 brings! Bates Motel definitely leaves me wanting more every episode, how about you? Let me know your thoughts on this episode.

‘Disney’ Shortlists Actors For Their Young ‘Han Solo’ Movie

Han Solo

Disney has narrowed down the search for their Young Han Solo after a number of Actors screen tested for the role last weekend in London.

Amongst the combatants vying for the part are a few homegrown talents including Skins star Jack O’Connell, Transformers 4 hero Jack Reynor and Kingsman leading man Taron Egerton. Who interestingly lost out to The Force Awakens John Boyega for the Rising Star Award at the BAFTAS last month.

The Hollywood Reporter noted that a handful of American hopefuls have also been included in the list with Blake Jenner (Glee) and Hail, Cesar! actor Alden Ehrenreich – who is currently winning critics over in the Coen Brothers directed comedy – are amongst the favourites.

Skatronixxx reported last week that the Young Han Solo won’t be alone in his adventures, as faithful Wookie companion Chewbacca will return for the Origin story.

So the lucky leading man better get use to acting alongside a Temperamental-Space-Bear when filming starts January next year.

The Flash SN2 EP12 – ‘Fast Lane’

rsz_5mtoayqi

So this weeks episode starts with a flash back to the night of the particle accelerator explosion at a tar factory with two men holding another man over a boiling vat of tar after some the two men get the information they need they drop the guy into the vat below. As the pair are leaving we see the explosion in the distance and they high tail it out of there, we then see the blast catch the drowning mans foot before he is fully submerged. We there arrive back in the present day to see the tar factory being demolished and as a digger disturbs the ground we see a puddle of wet tar appear and then a hand pop out from this puddle we have ourselves a new meta human.

rsz_the-flash-season-2-episode-12-fast-lane-recap-822082.jpg

We then see Dr Wells from Earth 2 working on a piece of tech that will allow him to drain Barry’s speed a bit at a time so that he can give it to Zoom but before he can complete his build he is interrupted by Barry who wants to help him with what he is working on. Wells tries his best to put him off by suggesting Earth 2 technology is to advanced for Barry to understand and that he prefers to work on his own. Barry doesn’t take no for an answer and proceeds to read all the books Wells has in double quick time and sets about trying to help Dr Wells with what he thinks is a way of stopping Zoom and saving his daughter.

After Barry trying to connect with the new Dr Wells by telling him he felt like this was like the old days and that the previous Dr Wells was like a mentor to him at which point Earth 2 Wells snaps and throws a board eraser at Barry’s head stating that he will eventually betray them all and if he was made to choose between his daughter and Barry he would pick his Daughter every time.

We then get to see the new meta human in the form of a tar puddle on the floor of a garage owned by none other by one of the guys who dropped him into the tar at the beginning of the episode. The new Meta human explains what it felt like to be dropped into that tar before deciding to show him instead, Barry and Joe arrive on the scene to investigate the murder and can tell this was a work of a meta human and he will take a sample to Cisco to analyse back at Star labs.

We see Dr Wells finish his piece of tech back at Star labs and manages to fix it to Barry’s suit under the flash symbol just as Barry and Cisco are discussing Ciscos new app that helps track meta humans from his phone. The app goes off and Barry goes off to face the new meta human Cisco has named Tar pit, as Barry is hurtling towards danger Wells activates another piece of tech that seems to storing the speed force of Barry as he is producing it. Barry faces off against Tar pit and manages to stop him by setting off a fire hydrant he then takes the second attended victim who was the other guy who helped create Tar pit to the police HQ for answers on why he after him.

rsz_harrison_wells_earth_2_tom_cavanagh-6.jpg

When Barry gets back to Star labs we see Cisco ask Barry if he is feeling ok as he was moving slower than he normally does, Barry replies that he is feeling fine just a bit tired. We then see that Dr Wells has come up with a way of stopping Tar pit by using nitrous grenades and that this will help freeze Tar pit and not allow him to fry his next victim. We then see Dr Wells waiting at a warehouse and who appears none other than Zoom, Dr wells gives Zoom the speed force that he drained from Barry and then advises if he gets his daughter back he will help him drain off all Barry’s speed force. Zoom grabs Wells by the shoulder and advises that he will not give him back his daughter until he has helped him fully drain Barry and that he will torture his daughter for fun over and over again unless he does.

During this episode we also see Iris and Joe try and talk Wally out of continuing his illegal drag racing but this does not go down well and Wally walks out to attend another race, Iris makes guest appearance at this race and advises Wally she is going to do a piece on the racing for the paper. This also does not go down well as this is the last thing that people at these type of races want, Iris also spots the guy who appears to be organising these races and manages to sneak a picture of him for her story. Iris later visits the organiser and threatens too write the article about the races, he does not take to kindly to this and threatens to hurt Iris if she runs the story only for Iris to reveal that she has been recoding the whole conversation.

We see Wally show up to confront Iris about her visit and to warn her to back off as these are not the kind of people to be messed with. Iris advises Wally that he does not need to race anymore as the hospital bills for his mum have been paid in full and she doesn’t eat to see him wrapped around a tree, Wally leaves advising Iris that if she turns up to another race he wont be able to protect her. The team are trying to piece together how the two men that have been targeted by Tar pit know each other, it turns out they were all in prison together even two of them sharing a cell together. They manage to find out who the other person was sharing with and it turns out to be none other than the guy organising the drag races just in time for Iris to show up and say she knows where to find him.

rsz_family-viewing-the-flash-s2e12.jpg

As they Iris and Joe show up Wally is about to start his latest race as the two racers speed off the tarmac in from of them begins to bobble making the two high speed cars start bouncing around. We see a large piece of the tarmac appear in front of Wally’s car as he’s goes up this ramp it aims his car back towards the spectators and the race organiser, Barry turns up and manages to get Wally out of the car in time before seeing the car flying towards Iris. Barry sets off to stop any debris hitting Iris and he manages to push away a wing mirror but cannot seem to catch a rather sharp looking piece of glass heading towards Iris no matter how hard he tries and it ends up hitting her in the shoulder.

rsz_flash-s2e12-flash-iris-injured

Luckily Iris is taken to the hospital and the injury isn’t serious and she is going to need to rest up. We go back to star labs and the team are trying to figure out why Barry has been getting slower and we find out that Barry’s speed force has decreased by 2%, eventually Dr Wells can’t take it anymore and advises that team that is was him and shows them the device and that he is working with Zoom to get his daughter back. Joe loses it and punches Wells in the face and chucks him in one of the Meta human cells before he kills him. Barry and Joe then go off to deal with Tar pit once and for all by using the guy the arrested earlier as bait and sure enough Tar pit takes it and ends up being nailed with two nitrous grenades by Barry.

rsz_the-flash-2x12-001-480x320.jpg

The episode end with Barry saying that the team need to decide if they are going to send Dr Wells back to Earth 2 and then uses the implosion grenades that Wells has designed to close the portal. The team go down to the cells and Dr Wells thinks this is goodbye and they have agreed to let him go home only for Barry to announce that they are a team and they would not send him back alone and they will be coming with him to Earth 2.

‘Mark Hamill’ & ‘Kevin Conroy’ Team-Up For ‘The Killing Joke’ Animated Movie

The Joker

Batman: The Animated Series legends Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill have confirmed that they will once again face-off as Batman and The Joker in DC’s animated adaptation of The Killing Joke.

It had been rumoured that the voice acting duo had been tapped to star after DC announced they were working on brining one of their more controversial stories to the small screen at Comic-Con last year.

Comic Book Resources got the confirmation however when they had a chance to speak with Geekdom’s fan favourites: “I’ve had the great privilege of voicing Batman for more than two decades, and some of my favorite moments in the recording booth have been alongside Mark Hamill,” Conroy said. “Mark always enables me to be a better actor. I’m thrilled that we’re both back to bring these characters to life in one of the most heralded Batman/Joker stories of all time.

Hamill, who will make his official return as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode 8 next year. Also shared the same sentiments as his his co-hort expressing that “the chance to work once again with Kevin Conroy, my favorite Batman, in what some consider the definitive origin of this iconic villain is a dream come true for me. I am beyond thrilled to return as The Joker in ‘The Killing Joke!

Fans of the Cape Crusader will remember the story as a dark period for Jim Gordon and his family as The Joker sets out to prove that even a hero can become a villain given “one bad day.” The 1988 Alan Moore comic also revealed for the first time Joker’s origin story as a failed comedian and featured the iconic villain shooting Barbara Gordon – which not only ended her superhero career as Batgirl – but also confined her to a wheelchair until DC’s New 52 comic book reboot in 2011.

CBR also indicates that another voice-acting legend Tara Strong (Teen Titans, Powerpuff Girls, Rugrats) will voice Barbra Gordon while Twin Peaks’s Ray Wise will play her father Commissioner Gordon.

Although Warner Bros. have yet to reveal a release date for the film, this years Comic-Con San Diego attendees will be treated to the world premiere with the animated feature hitting stores later in the summer.

damien2.jpg

I could hardly contain my excitement when I learnt that ‘The Omen’ (I own The Omen Pentology) was being re-imagined as a TV series and follows Damien in his adult life. For those of you that are not familiar with ‘The Omen’ here is a brief background.

The Omen movies are an American-British horror set in 1976 and is about a young boy Damien, who was adopted at birth by Mr Thorn the American Ambassador and his wife after their their own son was still born but things are not what the seem with Damien and surrounded by mystery and death, the Thorn’s are totally unaware their son is the Antichrist. You dont need to have seen the movies to understand whats going on in the TV series as it explains his past along the way.

Lets have a little refresher before we get into ‘A Danger to Himself and Others’. Remero seals his fate in the town by finally choosing sides and Caleb makes a decision that will uproot his new life.

A Danger to Himself and Others – SN4 EP1

The next day Remero disposes of Bob Paris’ body in a hole in the boat and lets it flood with water while he bails out into a rowboat and rows away and throw a phone in the water.  Norman wakes up in the middle of a field dirty and covered in blood and when a farmer finds him he is arguing with his “Mother” the farmer attempts to help Norman but he charges at him so the farmer knocks him out. Norma is at home and beside herself trying to  find Norman, while Dylan is out putting up “Missing” posters around town. At the Portland Hospital Emma is being prepped for surgery and her doctor reassures she will do great. When Alex gets home he hides Bob’s Money under the bricks in his fireplace  and Norman is taken to the county psychiatric hospital and is strapped to a gurney and the nurse tells Norman he was found in a field and Norman asks for his mother.

Dylan and Norma receive a call from the farmer who found Norman and learn that Norman is in a psychiatric hospital in Willamette County, but Dylan tells Norma he needs to go the Portland Hospital to see Emma, its then Norma realizes that the two are a couple and goes on her on to Willamette psychiatric hospital to pick Norman up but is refused access to him for 48-hours, the doctor believes Norman could be dangerous and Norma negligent as she didn’t get Norman the help he needs. Movie Review: The Wolf of Wall Street

thewolfofwallstreet

Year: 2013; Dir: Martin Scorsese; Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie, Matthew McConaughey; Length: 3hrs; Cert: 18

Let me start be saying I’m a BIG fan of Leonardo DiCaprio…… Don’t let that think that this is going to cloud my judgement on this film though! I’m also a fan of biopics, but you probably haven’t ever heard of the guy that this film is about, unless you have an unhealthy interest in investment banking!!

The film documents the rise Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio), a guy from a poor background in New York, who manages to bag himself a job on Wall Street in his early 20’s. Very soon he’s immersed himself into the ‘work hard, play hard’ atmosphere that encompasses everything to do with Wall Street in the 80’s and decides that he can do better on his own, by taking advantage of a ‘niche’ market in the penny stocks world.

By teaming up with a random stranger in a diner, Donny (Jonah Hill), Jordan embarks on the venture that will eventually make him millions of dollars, but will also take him on a downward spiral of excess….. in all it’s forms.

As one of my friends, James put it, the film can be summed up in three words: Swearing, cocaine and money. To be honest, that’s fairly accurate, though I would add that the film also has a huge amount of depth. Yes, it’s about all of that, but it also serves as a cautionary tail to anyone who thinks that money can buy happiness.

Things are going great for Jordan. He has the mansion, the trophy wife, Naomi (Margot Robbie – who has come a long way since her stint in Neighbours!!), the helicopter and yacht, but things quickly turn sour when he has to deal with the FBI and his partying ways get out of control.

As you’d expect from Martin Scorsese, there are some great stylistic elements to the film. Leo often breaks the 4th wall, which leads to some hilarious moments. Also, the camera angles and action shots are typical of his style, but with a modern twist. The colours and visuals really do keep you engaged in the film, despite it’s epic length.

That leads me onto the only downside of the film, for me anyway. I had to watch it in a couple of sittings. It’s a very intense film and to sit and watch the entire three hours in one go would have been exhausting! Having said that, if you’re willing to invest (Ha! Pardon the pun!!) the time in this film, you will be rewarded with a stylish film that tells a very important story in a compelling, and often humorous, way. In many ways, this is Martin Scorsese’s modern masterpiece, and with a stunning cast fronted by Leonardo DiCaprio, you can’t really go wrong here.

Oh and before I go,  watch out for the cameo by the actual Jordan Belfort. It adds a little extra genius to an already stunning film.

Rating: 8.5/10

The CW Announces Show Renewals!

thecw

I’m in HEAVEN!

Today The CW has released its list of renewals!

They’re renewing almost all of their current line-up including my favorites, Supernatural (Season 12), The Vampire Diaries (Season 8) and The Originals (Season 4).

Some articles had listed TVD and The Originals as shows in danger of being cancelled. With ratings low since Nina Dobrev’s departure, The Vampire Diaries (along with The Originals) had been moved to the ‘cancellation waiting room’ of Friday nights.  But, apparently they’re doing well enough there that the suits at the network are willing to give them another season.

There was never any doubt as to the renewal of Supernatural.  CW boss, Mark Pedowitz has always maintained that as long as The Boys want to continue so will the show.  Apparently, J2 still want to keep hunting monsters, because the Famdom is getting a Season 12.

I can’t wait to see what new and creative ways the writers of these shows will torture me next year!

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. SN3 EP11 – ‘Bouncing Back’

rsz_11200_2x1

Last night saw the return of Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D”, the television series based on Phil Coulson and his team as they deal with their own sets of problems in the MCU, fighting to keep SHIELD up and running whilst coping with the fallout from the main movie stories.

Obvious spoilers if you’re haven’t caught up/ watched the show yet.

Season 3 thus far has seen Coulson dealing with his loss of limb, and the whole team dealing with the aftermath of the Terrigan contamination in the ocean, helping find newly turned Inhumans and trying to help them and the public become safe. It then also saw the turning of Andrew, May’s ex-husband whom she was reconciling with, into an Inhuman with a desire to take out other Inhumans. It also saw the controversial argument of how to handle Inhumans and of how the public should see them.

The mid-season finale, “Maveth”, ended on a massive massive high – which saw us finding out that the man Jemma fell in love with on the alien planet was dead, and possessed by the creature – a creature of immense power. It then also saw beloved traitor/anti-hero/villain/murderer of women Grant Ward killed rather violently by Phil Coulson himself. It was a huge, action packed finale with so many questions to answer and so many places for it to go.

So how did “Bouncing Back” hold up?

Considering the show is coming back off of one of it’s massive and now infamous hiatus’s, it held its own very well. I’m glad we didn’t have an instant throw down of “AAH PLOTS AND THINGS” because realistically, it needed to reintroduce itself to it’s audience after a long time away. And it did exactly that.

The episode introduced us to a new Inhuman, affectionally named “Yo-Yo” for her ability – she has superspeed, but she has to go back to a fixed starting point – much like, a yo-yo. In the comics, she’s actually known as “Slingshot”, but considering her powers come about for completely different reasons than “I had fish for dinner that day”, I think it’s a nice nod to the comic book alias.

NATALIA CORDOVA-BUCKLEY

The episode also featured, and handled well, the subject of police brutality in other countries and the severe in-balance of justice in certain areas of the world. I also absolutely adored the ending – where she chose to stay in her home country instead of going with them to join SHIELD. It shows a chance for SHIELD to grow and develop, to become a world-wide force once again, and this time, with the right people at the controls.

There was also the whole issue of FitzSimmons and their ever perilous relationship – considering Fitz had to destroy her ex-boyfriends possessed corpse, and that they shared a rather intense kiss, viewers weren’t sure where and how this was going to go. This episode seemed to point in the direction of them trying to rebuild and “start again” – it’s going to be interesting to see how they do this, considering everything they’ve been through and how different they are as characters, but it seemed like the adult thing to do, and it’s a really refreshing development to see after the past season and a half of them being in pieces.

And then, there was the whole thing about Ward’s cold pale corpse being used as an alien vessel. Brett Dalton’s acting is absolutely wonderful. He’s done an insanely good job as Grant Ward, the mentally twisted and very complex ex-SHIELD/Hydra agent. He plays the perfect all-mighty alien power that’s come back to earth. He’s mostly silent, but his cold, purple and grey exterior paired with the small tilts and facial movements makes for a genuinely subtle and scary villain for us to look forward to.

rsz_wardmaveth

Overall, this was a very enjoyable episode. No, it wasn’t this super duper action filled incredible episode, but that’s not really what’s needed after a long time away. What we need is a re-introduction to the plot points, to the things left hanging after the events of “Maveth” and this is exactly what this episode was. And now, it’s pointed to where the show is going from here and what foes the team are up against this time.
