Clea – Photo: Indie Underground

This weeks Fresh Friday Featured artist is another Aussie Clea, and here is why I choses this incredibly talented Aussie. A new original australian series The Kettering Incident aired here in Australia on Monday and Clea, a young singer-songwriter has covered the single ‘Crimson and Clover‘ especially for the new TV series ” The Kettering Incident“. I have to say that to date it is my favorite cover of the single, apart from the  Joan Jett & the Blackhearts cover.

Clea Pratt an alternative singer-songwriter from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Her love for music began at a very young age, song writing has for Clea, become a natural remedy while also being cathartic, exhilarating, exhausting but ultimately incredibly rewarding. Clea’s tracks are enchantingly beautiful and her voice is just as enchanting but it also has a mysteriousness about it, and immediately evokes goosebumps.

Laura Marling, Nick Drake, Ainslie Wills and Grizzly Bear are Clea’s major influences, Clea describes her songs as “broody and glum” but says she has learnt to own that style of writing and able to take advantage of it. Clea’s single ‘Dire Consequences‘ is very easy to get lost in the music arrangement and not to mention her gorgeous tone to her voice. Her other single ‘Polyester‘ is just as beautifully done, and I think it really showcases her voice. Clea’s newest single ‘Crimson and Clover‘ is hauntingly beautiful, with feel of mysteriousness to it and add her haunting tone and you have the this incredible cover of a single that has been covered by many, but this one takes the cake!!  Clea is seriously talented and I very much look forward to hearing more from this incredibly talented fellow Aussie and Queenslander.

You can find Clea on Spotify, SoundCloud, Google’s Play Music and iTunes. Below you will find her singles from Spotify and her ‘Dire Consequences‘ music video.

True Blood Is Returning! As A Musical???

trueblood

Remember True Blood? The show that gave us a chance to see Rogue from X-Men‘s boobies? Was the launchpad for a former Prince Valiant and introduced us to Vinnie from Home and Away on a wider platform. Yes so do I!

The TV adaptation of the books written by Charlaine Harris, ‘The Southern Vampire Mysteries‘ was a huge success and brought vampires, werewolves, fairies, shapeshifters and what not to an audience and introudced us to also one of the niceset men in Hollywood, Alexander Skarsgard.

Sadly as amazing as the first couple of series were, the last couple well quite frankly sucked, the show lacked direction, had crazy plots, killed off one of the best new characters in Jesus (noooooooo).

As much as I loved True Blood in the early days, when I heard the news that it was coming back, I was initially hesitant. Would a reboot or continuation of the show work? My fears were put aside, with the news that the new True Blood project would be a MUSCIAL????

According to the New York Post, True Blood: The Musical is being Pam MacKinnon (Broadway’s China Doll), Nathan Barr, who penned the score for the HBO series, is composing the music and Elizabeth Scott (Living Dead Girl) will be writing the script and lyrics.

Could we see some of the original stars return for the play and what are their singing voices like? Well here’s one of the stars from the show below, singing his heart out enjoy 😉 On second thoughts where’s the stake!

Welcome to a new weekly feature article “Fresh Friday’s” where Skatronixxx Music will feature non mainstream Artists from all genres every Friday. There are so many talented artists out there that we are missing out on due to an over saturation of mainstream air play, that’s why we at Skatronixxx.com think it is important to feature these artists in a bid to share their talent and music with our readers. To kick off our first “New Music Friday” feature article is the very talented and fellow Aussie Phebe Starr.

Phebe Starr is an Australian singer-songwriter from Sydney, New South Wales. Phebe’s music has a really unique sound and style to it and is classed as Electro/pop, she has been compared to the likes of Florence And The Machine, Sia and Lykki Li. Phebe got her start from a Australian Radio Station Triple J and her debut single “Alone With You” was well received and landed on several blogs including, Neon Gold, Interview Mag, Perez Hilton, Vogue and Harpers Bazaar. Her single ‘Feel My Love” has just recently had 1 million plays on Spotify, Phebe’s songs are truly music to the ears, her voice is flawless and has a uniqueness that I’ve not heard before, her music has a way of getting into your soul, making you want to move, while other tracks are able to make you feel calm. Every track of Starr’s is different and for me personally find that refreshing and quite a rare quality these days.

Phebe is based in Los Angles where she has been growing and developing her craft further within the US writing scene, Phebe is set to release her new EP ‘Chronicles’ into the world, the EP features 5 strong, theatrical tracks that are sure to make the world sit up and take notice, and so it should, Phebe Starr is incredibly talented and everybody needs to know her name, here is what Neon Gold, Interview Mag and Perez Hilton had to say about Phebe Starr…

Her hypnotizing voice sings about becoming lost in dreams, along with a synth-pop backing track.” – Interview Magazine

Phebe Starr is the latest pop starlet from down under to make our collective heart skip a beat. You’re about to seriously fall head over heels for Phebe Starr, but it’s ok, we’re all in this together.” – Neon Gold

Stu’s Track Of The Week 01/07/16

hqdefault 1

So this weeks choice comes from Florida Post-Hardcore band A Day To Remember and there cover of Kelly Clarkson’s song Since U Been Gone. The song was covered by the band and released on the reissued version of there album  For Those Who Have Heart.

“Since U Been Gone” had overdubs added to it especially for the release on the For Those Who Have Heart reissue. The band chose the song, as McKinnon stated, “we thought would embody what we are as a band by taking like, the poppiest thing ever and still making it hard enough to where kids fight at our shows over it.

So there you have it as always I hope you enjoy this weeks pick and you turn it up loud and bang your heads.

Legendry Guitarist Scotty Moore Dies

wp-1467268566887.jpg

The legendary guitarist Scotty Moore, has died in Tennessee at the age of 84. Moore is best known for his backing of Elvis Presley and was the guitarist for “The King” Elvis Presley, from 1954 and played on all the classics including “That’s All Right“, “Good Rockn’ Tonight“, “Milk Cow Blues Boogie“, “Baby Let’s Play House“, “Heartbreak Hotel“, “Mystery Train“, “Blue Suede Shoes“, “Hound Dog“, “Too Much“, “Jailhouse Rock” and “Hard Headed Woman“.

His early background was in jazz and country music, he led a group called “Starlight Wranglers” before Sam Phillips at Sun Record put him together with then teenage Elvis Presley. Phillips believed that Moore’s lead guitar and Bill Black’s double bass were all that was needed to augment Presley’s rhythm guitar and lead vocals on their recordings. In 1954 Moore and Black accompanied Elvis on what would become the first legendary Presley hit, the Sun Studios session cut of “That’s All Right“, a recording regarded as a seminal event in rock and roll history.

Moore had also starred in four Elvis movies Loving You, jailhouse Rock, King Creole and G.I. Blues. In 1960 Moore took a job as production manager at Sam Phillips’ Sun Records and continued to work with Elvis on 60s hits “Good Luck Charm”, “(You’re The) Devil in Disguise” and “Bossa Nova Baby”. In 1964 Phillips fired Moore and he went on to record a solo album ‘The Guitar That Changed The World‘ before reuniting with Elvis for his ‘68 Comeback Special

Moore was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000, Moore played his last show at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis in 2007. He was ranked 29th in Rolling Stone magazine’s list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time in 2011, and in 2015 Moore was inducted into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame.

Rest easy legend, thank you for the music….

Backstreet’s Back Alright…..

wp-1467197405820.jpg

This Summer boy band Backstreet Boys from the late 1990s, are releasing a brand new album. Recently the boy band has been making a few appearances that could quite possibly be seen as somewhat strategic. They have preformed on various TV shows, they sung at the Miss USA 2016 pageant and have also announced a Las Vegas residency. Nick Carter told Entertainment Tonight that the “Backstreet Boys have signed a deal with Live Nation to do a “test run” of nine shows in Las Vegas for what could become a permanent residency in the future.”

Two of the band members Nick Carter and Brian Littrell recently teased of a collaboration with the talented country duo Florida Georgia Line on each of their instagram accounts on the 27th June, announcing a single set for a late August release on the country duo’s album. Carter wrote on his instagram “Also working on the new Backstreet street album as well. Get Ready!!!”. Its been 3 years since the bands last album “In a World Like This”.

The Backstreet Boys rose to fame with their debut international album, Backstreet Boys (1996). The band have sold over 130 million records worldwide, making them the best-selling boy band in history, and one of the world’s best-selling music artists and are the first group since Sade to have their first nine albums reach the top 10 on the Billboard 200. They also have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which they received on April 22, 2013.

It will be interesting to see how well the new album will be received and if they have the same sound, or will we hear something new and fresh from the boy band? We will have to wait until late August to find out.
