Billy Corgan Reported to be Suing TNA

Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan is reportedly taking legal action against Nashville-based wrestling company TNA. It is said that Corgan, who is the President of TNA has filed a lawsuit against TNA Chairwoman Dixie Carter and her husband Serg Salinas, as well as TNA Impact Wrestling, parent company Impact Ventures, and TNA CFO Dean Broadhead.

Details of the case are sketchy at the moment, as all the documents are being kept confidential, All that has been released is that action was filed on Wednesday; a Nashville judge has signed orders to keep the filings secret; a temporary restraining order has been issued precluding parties from talking; and Corgan has requested a jury of six people to hear the case.

Due to the lack of available information, there is a lot of speculation about the nature of the case. Corgan has apparently been unhappy for some time with how the company has been running behind the scenes, and has wanted more control of how they operate. Insiders say that Corgan has invested a lot of money in TNA, essentially saving the company from shutting down, so he has wanted to have more of a say in what is going on.

Four LEGO Ideas Sets You Must Own

1634682-o_1945khltg1ofqmcgpfj7occvp7-full

You may not have heard of LEGO Ideas but it is a site has been behind some of LEGO’s most successful sets over the last few years. LEGO Ideas is basically a website that allows users to submit their ideas for LEGO sets; each set must reach a maximum of 10,000 supporters to be considered for release by LEGO…and recently Savath_Bunny’s amazing Agents of SHIELD set did just that, so I thought I’d share with you four of my favourite LEGO Ideas sets.

Doctor Who: The 12th Doctor’s TARDIS

dr-who-lego

Minifigures: The 11th Doctor, The 12th Doctor, Clara Oswald, Weeping Angels

Build: TARDIS (Interior, exterior), Daleks

Price: £42.99

This without a doubt has to be my favourite LEGO Ideas set so far. It’s a very accurate recreation of the 12th Doctor’s TARDIS in LEGO and features a nice mixture of minifigures including not just one Doctor, but TWO. The Dalek mini-builds may not work quite as well as the LEGO Dimensions Dalek (the flappy bit at the front is weird) but it’s passable. Possibly the most fun thing about this set though is that it means you can have Batman and Donald Duck in the 12th Doctor’s TARDIS console room. Just make sure you don’t confuse the polarity of the neutron flow.

Back To The Future Delorean

maxresdefault2

Minifigures: Marty McFlyDoc Brown

Build: Delorean

Price: £149.99

“Wait a minute, wait a minute, Doc…you built a time machine…out of a Delorean…out of LEGO?!?”

That’s inevitably what Marty McFly probably said to his fellow minifigure Doc Brown in the LEGO universe. This LEGO version of the iconic Delorean is impressively accurate to its appearance in the film and comes as a three-in-one build, meaning you can rebuild it as it appeared in Back To The Future Part 2 and Back To The Future Part 3, as well as its main look from Back To The Future Part 1. Whilst it’s disappointing that Marty Mcfly doesn’t come with his hoverboard from Part 2, the minfigures look great – even if Doc Brown’s hair piece from the Dimensions Fun Pack works better.

Ghostbusters Ecto-1

lego-ghostbusters-ecto-1

Minifigures: Peter Venkman, Egon SpenglerRay StantzWinston Zeddemore

Build: Ecto-1Ghost TrapProton Packs

Price: £42.95

The Ecto-1 is perhaps one of the most famous movie cars of all time – and being able to build it in LEGO is a lot of fun. The Ecto-1 set accurately recreates its look from the first Ghostbusters movie and comes with a neat buildable stand for the four Ghostbusters. The Ideas Peter Venkman arguably looks more like Bill Murray than the LEGO Dimensions figure, with a more fitting hair piece. Egon Spengler is perhaps the most impressive minfigure of the bunch though; LEGO picked the perfect hair for him in this set. And, of course, each minfigure  is carrying an unlicensed nuclear accelerator on his back: the Proton Packs, which look incredible in LEGO.

The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine

fbs4tfccp5vb4yrfo5vw

Minifigures: Paul McCartneyJohn LennonRingo StarrGeorge HarrisonJeremy

Build: Yellow Submarine

Price: £49.99

All together now! We all live in a yellow submarine, a yellow submarine, a yellow submarine…

This set is based on the 1968 animated fantasy film Yellow Submarine and will be released on 1st November 2016. Some may be disappointed that it features minifigures based on the Beatles’ animated look from the film but personally I think it makes for a more interesting set of minifigures than if they had based it on their ‘real life’ appearance. The Yellow Submarine itself is possibly one of the most beautiful builds LEGO have produced and the inclusion of ‘nowhere man’ Jeremy is an interesting choice. It’s also worth noting how each of the Beatles are holding their souvenirs from the live-action scene at the end of the movie; John’s got the submarine’s telescope, Paul’s got a little ‘love’, George has the motor that Jeremy fixes, and Ringo’s got a hole in his pocket.

So those are my top four favourite LEGO Ideas sets. Do you agree with my list? Let me know in the comments below.

All prices are taken from Amazon UK as of Saturday 15th October 2016. The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine price comes from the press release for the set.

Fresh Friday’s Featured Artist This Week Is DJ-Z!

It’s Friday and that can only mean two things, One, the weekend is almost here and two, it’s Fresh Friday!! Fresh Friday’s feature different indie artists, bands and musicians each week. We are mixing things up here at Skatronixxx Music and this week for the first time Fresh Friday’s Featured Artist is DJ-Z

img_0917

DJ-Z is a female DJ from Guam and is a DJ for JR Productions based in Utah. DJ-Z has been spinning for JR Productions for 5 years, you can also find her spinning at Fahrenheit Lounge in Layton, UT. DJ-Z was kind enough to take time out of her busy schedule to do a Q & A with me this week, check it out below.

DJ-Z Fresh Friday Q&A

Presh: When did you start DJing – and what or who were your  early passions and influences?

DJ-Z: My father started a production company that specialises in mobile DJ services about  5 years ago and I have been in his circuit since. My family introduced me to music at a very young age. Both sides of my family (Mom & Dad) are musically inclined so it’s been inherent in me. My father and uncle were in a band and I used to sit in and listen to them rehearse all the time. My mom would be listening to the latest music; playing VH1 and MTV in the background. When I visit my grandparents, my uncles would be outside tricking their trucks to old school hip hop, 80’s funk and island reggae. That being said, my family plays a strong influence on why I’m a DJ today. On a personal level, music has always been my way of escape and expanding my imagination.

P: Where do you usually spin?

DJ-Z: I currently spin at Fahrenheit Lounge in Layton, UT; it’s about 25 miles north of Salt Lake City. It’s super chic with a great vibe! I also spin for private events as well.

img_0918

P: What are currently your main challenges as a DJ? What is it about DJing, compared to, say, production your own music, which makes it interesting for you?

DJ-Z: My current challenge is building my mixing skills. I’m in the process of attending seminars to hone the craft down. I love performing and try to utilise that enthusiasm to get the crowd going. I see myself as the driver taking the audience for a ride. Kind of like a storyteller. That’s why crowd reading skills are important, however, my primary objective is to satisfy my sound and the rest follows.

P: What  do you usually start with when preparing for a set?

DJ-Z: I start  out with easy listening music, anything chill with a groovy tempo. I feel that starts any event out well. I also see what’s hot in today’s music and do my research in some underground/indie tracks. I love spreading the love and finding a hot track that isn’t mainstream. There is so much great music out there that needs to get exposed, and of course, I love remixes!

img_0919

P: When there’s more music than one can possibly take in, it’s becoming increasingly hard to know what constitutes an original and a remake anymore. what’s your opinion on the importance of roots, traditions, respecting originals and sources?

DJ-Z: It’s definitely tough to differentiate what’s original and what is not. I believe we all pay tribute to roots and traditions as we spin or compose. Putting your original spin on a classic beat and seeing where it goes is great. However, other artists most especially the greats work so hard at putting their own original work together, therefore, respect is crucial; alway credit the source.

P: What makes you decide to play a particular record during one of your sets? Is there a criteria other than pure subjectivity, for selecting what to play at a gig?

DJ-Z: I always have a set prepared specifically to the nature of the event. No matter the event, I ensure my tracks are fresh and have a great beat. I feel a lack of beats can kill your set. In my opinion, a DJ has to feel his/her music. Anything I can move to and excites me, the crowd will feed off of. Yet based on experience; sticking to your set 100% doesn’t work all the time. If there is a track in my set that’s not exciting my crowd, I improvise and crowd-read.
