Pokémon GO – The Fun Continues

rsz_fgtvpokemongo1

The new Pokémon GO app for Android and iOS has been stirring up quite up a storm with some users travelling far and wide in hopes of finding their next catch.

Over the last few days, people have been sharing some incredible shots on various social networks, some more Gastly than others:

Recently, a trainer on Instagram found that, like many famous buildings in New York, Trump Tower has been tagged as a Gym. This means people can battle Donald Trump’s 58 story skyscraper and leave one Pokémon to defend it as theirs. Here’s how the building looks in game:

FullSizeRender.jpg

Interestingly, the Pokémon on top of the building appears to be a rather grumpy looking Pinsir, so, who knows how close you’ll have to get to take on the Gym here.

Another “keen” trainer shared his experience of catching a run-of-the-mill Pidgey, whilst his wife was in labour. Jonathan Theriot posted the below picture on Imgur with the caption: “When your wife is about to have a baby and a Pokemon shows up and you have to low-key catch it…”

The new father said to BuzzFeed: “As soon as it popped up, I was like, oh my gosh, there’s a Pidgey sitting on your bed! So, I screenshotted it, then caught it and showed it to her.”

I’ve been playing the game for the last couple of days and have found myself taking walks to get to my local Gym or to get better Pokémon. I’ve also found myself walking around the house or garden in hopes of making a new discovery on the mini map. This truly is a unique experience and a brilliant way to get people up and out.

Pokémon GO Players Finding Pokémon in Strange Places

rsz_1pokemon_go_620-400

Players of the newly released Pokémon GO have begun their quests to become a Pokémon master, and in their spare time have been sharing some incredible shots via Twitter and other social media.

Pokémon GO is a new augmented-reality (AR) game developed by Niantic for iOS and Android devices. The game is free-to-play and allows people to capture their favourite pocket monsters in the real world, but this has proven to be quite a unique experience for some users, like this accidental fry-up:

The perfectly Exeggcuted shot:

For a lot of users, taking a bathroom break has proven to be quite the ordeal when they find its occupied:

Probably best to leave this Rattata alone:

Some of people have even had Pokémon interacting with their pets…sort of:

A few trainers have been searching a little too far and wide, finding themselves in some strange places, most recently a police station. It seems like it started to become a bit of an issue when the station had to issue a kind request to users:

The app first went live in Australia and New Zealand and is now available for those in the US, but sadly there’s still no news on when the UK and Europe will be able to start training.

To go with the app, avid trainers will be able to purchase a small wearable bracelet called the Pokémon Go Plus. This notifies them of nearby monsters via a Bluetooth connection which will light up and rumble once you’re close, but at the moment it has a rough release window of late July 2016.

Hi Readers

It’s time for another cosplay interview, this time we meet Kate Key Cosplay! Kate Key Cosplayer is a triple threat, a cosplayer, youtuber and already awesome girl from Spain. Let’s find out some more about Kate Key Cosplay.

1) How did you get into cosplaying?

I got into cosplaying since 2012 when I saw a cosplay video on Youtube.

2) Where do you get your inspiration and ideas to cosplay from? Is it from programs you watch now or childhood programs or both?

Nowadays I get my inspiration on videogames like League of Legends, World of Warcraft , Fight Games or cards games, but when I started in this world I was really inspired by anime and manga like Inuyasha, Naruto, Soul Eater or Death Note.

3) How do you put your outfits together are they 100% from scratch and if so what’s been your trickiest part to date?

Yeah my cosplays are made 100% by me and I love make them so much ! Well all my cosplays have a difficult part but the most difficult was my Windrangers bow or Sonya’s swords because they are so big.

If you wear a big armor or big costume it ‘s probably you are tired early haha.

An Interview With Cosplayer Mori Cosplays

jade1

Hi Readers!

It’s time for another cosplay interview, this time we meet Mori Cosplays! Although she’s a relative newbie to the internet cosplay scene; she’s not a newbie to the world of cosplay and this shows by the awesome outfit that inspired me to contact her to appear on the site! Luckily for us she said yes so lets find out some more about Mori Cosplays.

1) How did you get into cosplaying?

I first got into cosplaying when I was in middle school. I started dressing up as different characters from animes or games or even comics just for fun, though I never actually called it cosplay. They weren’t my best, but I can say that was a base to where I am now. I don’t have pictures of back then (and I am kind of happy I don’t because they were so basic haha, though I also kinda wish I did so I could see my progress!) My first cosplay was Misty from Pokemon, I think every girl has done a Misty in her life!!

Then I did various other coslpays such as Jill Valentine, and afterwards various more. I stopped for years, but now I’m trying to get back at the scene.

2) Where do you get your inspiration and ideas to cosplay from? Is it from programs you watch now or childhood programs or both?

I get inspired from my favorite games at the moment, or if I want to cosplay as a character that’s deep into my memories. Most of the time I mix characters because I don’t really like to be normal, and I like to complicate my life and make myself cry and ask myself why I came up with the idea in the first place when I start making the outfit overall or props. But overall, my inspiration comes from anything that I love personally. I would never dressup as a character that I don’t personally like.

3) How do you put your outfits together are they 100% from scratch and if so what’s been your trickiest part to date?

My outfits are 80% from scratch. At least I try them to be. Sometimes because of lack of time or laziness, I just buy some pieces off the internet and just fix them when I get the chance. Though the props are 100% from scratch and they are a pain!!.

4) What’s your favourite cosplay to date?

My favorite cosplay is Jade from Mortal Kombat. I think I have a very big resemblance with her in many ways, and well, we’re both fierce, so a piece of her is inside of me every single day.

jade2

5) If you’ve cosplayed at a convention what was the experience like?

I’ve been to a lot of cosplay conventions and I could say that the experience is unbelievable! The people coming and complimenting you is one of the most precious thing a cosplayer can feel! It’s like recieving a solid A + for your hard work, and when they ask for pictures it’s freaking awesome, since it boosts your self confidence a ton!

jade3

6) Can we expect to see you at any conventions this year?

I am planning to go to Kaisen Puerto Rico on the 30th of July, and Aguadacon in December. I am planning on going to other cons outside Puerto Rico, hopefully soon enough, but I need some pointers in where and when they are going to happen. I will love to go and meet new people and cosplayers around the US and hopefully the world.

7) If you could cosplay as anyone and budget wasn’t an issue who would it be?

Hmm…that’s a tricky question, since you need some money in every cosplay that you do. But if I was going to choose one, it would probably be Jill Valentine (I basically used things I had in my closet back then though the gun would be missing). Misty from Pokemon (a classic and most of the items you could find in your closet!). I think some of the anime school girl outfits are super easy to make or if you have a plaid skirt, you could eventually pull it off!

I am a huge gamer and had played lots of games, but sadly most of the outfits are difficult as hell!!. Ness from earthbound is another great and easy choice to make and wear! Gender blend or not, still great and would look good on anybody!. I remember my friend was going to Puerto Rico Comic Con this year and she decided to cosplay the day before! but she didn’t know what to wear since she had no time, and I just suggested her she should dressup as Ness, since it’s her main in smash and I was convinced she had the things on her closet, which she did!

8) Do you have any words of advice for up and coming cosplayers?

One of the things I tell cosplayers all the time is to have patience!!! It’s the key to everything specially if you are going to make something from scratch and with props! Oh god my sander broke and I ordered one online and I can’t wait for it to arrive so I can continue working on my future projects, and I can only have patience for it, since panicking won’t solve anything. Another tip is to make sure you buy wigs and NOT paint your hair with spray. It’s a no-no! I’ve seen people done it and they ruin a great cosplay! It’s like cosplaying as Kratos (kind of spoiler for one of my future cosplays) and not painting the Deimo’s birthmarks!!

9) Where can we find you online?

You can find me at:

New Pokemon For ‘Pokemon Sun And Moon’ Revealed

poke

Pokemon Sun and Moon is coming  November 18th 2016. Today they revealed new Pokemon as they usually do. Slow bursts of new Pokemon to raise the hype for the game. I for one am excited by these new Pokemon. I love building my team especially before the game comes out.

It might be sappy but I really connect with my team. By the end of the game these critters are my friends! So without further do here are the new Pokemon!

Charjabug the evolved form of Grubbin who was revealed at E3 is Bug Electric. Looks rather boxy compared to its grub shaped first stage

Vikavolt is the evolved form of Charjabug and retains the same type. He looks rather formidable and isn’t held back by a flying type weakness. He really is one of the cooler Pokemon in this generation thus far!

Drampa appears to be some form of aged dragon and is of the Normal Dragon type. I honestly have no idea what they could  do with this. But he could be majestic at the end.

Bruxish is a Water/Psychic fish and in the eyes of many is a monstrosity. It does look like a bad Picasso Pokemon which is rather humorous.

Cutiefly is a cute little Bug Fairy type Pokemon. Looks like something that would perch on you or somwhere nearby and just be adorable.

Togedamaru is the usual Pikachu clone, but he is Electric/Steel type. He is rather round and appears to be similar to a Porcupine. Could he evolve, or will he just stay cute?

Tapu Koko is the first island’s savior legendary. An Electric Fairy type who watches over the island and makes it safe. He fits the Polynesian warrior idea of Hawaii and looks rather formidable.

Now that these Pokemon have been revealed have any caught your eye? Have you seen something you hate? Tweet me @Starkwyrngamer with your thoughts!

‘Anime 101’ For Beginners

image

Anime or Japanese Animation is something that has been a part of my life since I first watched Pokémon in 1998.

Ever since then I have learned about an watched so much Anime. Now Anime is a lot broader then American cartoons.

While most American Cartoons are just humorous Anime tends to be everything. There are so many types of Anime it is astounding.

When I started I watched and read mostly Shonen Anime and Manga or Animes source material. These are the traditional hero saves the day type of manga. A hero gains a power or is working on attaining it and is thrust into a new world ripe with possibilities because of it.

Now many Anime fit this bill such as the comical yet vast One Piece a pirate adventure and the story of a bald superhero who can take out a foe with one hand in One Punch Man.

There are of course other types of Anime including Historical, Comedy, Drama, Horror, and many more. There are even stories about life and those often can be just as amazing even though the characters dont have amazing powers.

Other top shows include Bleach, Naruto, Attack on Titan, Sword Art Online, Gundam, Hunter x Hunter and Full Metal Alchemist.

I have enjoyed stories about cooks, students, and even train conductors. It really is about finding series that peak your interest. You never know you may start watching a show about a young Pianist and be crying by the time it’s done.

All I know is that without Anime and Manga I wouldn’t be who I am today. It has honestly made me see the world differently and appreciate far more about this blue marble than I did before.

Now this is literally just scratching the surface. In future articles I hope to delve into a few of my favorite Anime as well sharing some of the best and brightest new shows!

Case Turns Smartphone Into A Game Boy

hyperkin-smart-boy-1

Hyperkin Smart Boy

Retro is and will remain as cult

Everyone had one when they’re younger – a Nintendo Game Boy. A smart handheld with dozens of games, like Super Mario, Pokémon and The Legend of Zelda to mention some of the favorites.

But now Hyperkin an American company, which develop cost-friendly video game peripherals, announced a prototype at the E3 that looks pretty similar to the original.

The Smart Boy

Smart Boy was originally an April fool of the company, but they got so much good feedback from potential buyers, that they decided to develop a real one. This case allows android and Apple smartphone users, to convert their smartphone into a fully functional Game Boy.

hyperkin-smartboy-anleitung

How does Smart Boy work?

Well the case looks pretty similar to the original Game Boy, it has a D-Pad, two buttons and a Select and Start button. As you can see in the picture, you can easily cover your phone with the case. At the back is a slot where you can put in the old Game Boy games. So you only use your smartphone as a game screen.

When will it be released?

Hyperkin want to release their Smart Boy this year in December, so it’ll be released on time for Christmas. Hyperkin want to release some more information, like price and functionality of the Smart Boy next month too.

I’m not sure if Nintendo is quite happy with Hyperkin’s new interpretation of their Game Boy, but we’ll see how it’ll work.

I guess I’ll buy one when it’s available and will do a detailed review for you.

Go Toward The Future With Pokemon Go! E3 Developer Q/A

index

Pokemon Go is coming out sooner than later. First this humble idea was born as an April Fools Day Joke. But after its popularity skyrocketed Nintendo took it seriously and partnered with Niantic and the Pokemon company to make this a reality.

At E3 this morning they held a Developer Q and A with some of the greats including Shigeru Miyamoto and Junichi Masuda Along with Ishihara, Bill Trinen, and even the Jwittz.

This game is really looking like a fun experience as it puts people into their own Pokemon game. You explore this wide world of ours and catch Pokemon. It really is going to be something that makes you actually leave the house and explore. They will hold off on many of the functions of the game to allow for people to get used to it.

It looks like a game that will really engross you in your own world so that you can actually hunt Pokemon which is one reason it exists at all. Something where you can either go for a drive to somewhere new or even just go for a walk. You never know what Pokemon you may find in your back yard and that is just too cool.

Eventually they will have a group event where you go and catch Pokemon of the legendary variety such as Mewtwo. An event that will require everyone in the area to work together to catch this Pokemon

They are planning on releasing this game by the end of July but that is subject to change. As it is a smartphone game, they are planning on releasing a peripheral called Pokemon Go Plus. This will allow you to keep your eyes on the world rather then your phone which is refreshing to say the least. If there is Pokemon it will vibrate and you can just press the button, if you catch it, it will flash red green and blue. Then later you can check on your phone to see what you actually caught.

So when it comes out, I really hope people take it and go on Pokemon journeys of their own. It’s time for us to see a little bit of the world while we aren’t engrossed in other things. Maybe you’ll find something cool out there along with a sweet new Pokemon!

Below is the original trailer, and it really is something to see.  Hope it really works out like the developers intend. I honestly think that it will be something to enjoy and that if the people who are field testing it are enjoying it than that is a good sign.

Update: The whole Q/A event.

Pokemon Sun And Moon, Shines Like The Sun And Glows Like The Moon at E3

index

Day one of E3 for Nintendo and they brought out the big guns, Zelda and Pokemon. Of course Zelda is taking 95% of the day but that is okay. We got a bunch of new information from Pokemon and that is exciting in and of itself.

I have been a fan of Pokemon now since I was 6 in 1998. It is such a fantastic series and it has only gotten more vibrant and wonderful as time has passed.

So at first it seemed like they weren’t going to show much but after showing the trailer we have seen before, they jumped into game play.

I really enjoy E3 because they play games for the viewer, these hardened Big N employees are always playing these games. I love getting their fresh thoughts alongside the developers because it is so natural.

Seeing this game in a video certainly isn’t as magical as when you really play it but it is something to hold the players over. Seeing the sheer joy on their faces as they come across Pokemon, and how even though they have been playing the game it is still just as fun. I know it may be overdone for the viewers but it is nice.

Now, this short event showed off three new Pokemon and the first big battle between the Rival and the player character.

I really enjoyed seeing the new Pokemon as I always do.

There is Pikipek the sweet little woodpecker. He is a Normal/Flying Type.

Yungoos the terrifying yet adorable mongoose. This little creature is the standard normal type in the game.

Lastly a Pokemon not really shown was Grubbin this generation’s initial bug type.

The first battle between the rival and the player is a battle of stage. A ceremonial battle that connects to the wonderful ideas of Hawaiian Folklore. I love that they really are going all out to show off the beauty that Hawaii and that they really are taking everything to the next level. It really is a trip to Hawaii and even though it may be just like other Pokemon games in a lot of ways, it is clearly going to show off how Hawaii is even if it is just nice things like this.

It was also shown that there will be a Battle Royal. Four players enter with up to three Pokemon. The first to lose all there Pokemon ends the Royal. It is a nice change up to the normal battle system.

I am super excited for November 18th of this year, and my chance to jump into the Alola Region with Generation 7 and Sun&Moon. Tweet me at @Starkwyvrngamer with any thoughts on this game.

Pokemon Twitch Event!

English_Pokémon_logo.svg

Reporting on an article from Gamespot.

I’m 25 years old. Not many times in my life have I ever said that “I feel old,” but the few times I have generally revolve around things I used to see or play when I was younger. Being a 90s kid, sometimes those rose-tinted nostalgia glasses go on and I can’t help but reminisce on my childhood. So when I hear that Pokemon is about to celebrate its 20th anniversary on February 27th, I can’t help but feel one thing:

Old.

But that’s ok! Because this Saturday, the official Twitch Pokemon channel will be hosting more than a day’s worth of everything Pokemon! Starting at 1PM EST, developers and other individuals important to the creation of Pokemon will have a lovely discussion about the culturally defining innovation that became the phenomenon that is Pokemon.

rsz_tpp_homage

All hail Bird Jesus!

Then starting at 9PM EST, the official Twitch Pokemon channel will begin streaming 24 hours of nothing but Pokemon. How long has it been since you’ve seen the original series or some of the movies? Well, Saturday is your chance! Stop on by and celebrate!
