The CW Announces Show Renewals!

thecw

I’m in HEAVEN!

Today The CW has released its list of renewals!

They’re renewing almost all of their current line-up including my favorites, Supernatural (Season 12), The Vampire Diaries (Season 8) and The Originals (Season 4).

Some articles had listed TVD and The Originals as shows in danger of being cancelled. With ratings low since Nina Dobrev’s departure, The Vampire Diaries (along with The Originals) had been moved to the ‘cancellation waiting room’ of Friday nights.  But, apparently they’re doing well enough there that the suits at the network are willing to give them another season.

There was never any doubt as to the renewal of Supernatural.  CW boss, Mark Pedowitz has always maintained that as long as The Boys want to continue so will the show.  Apparently, J2 still want to keep hunting monsters, because the Famdom is getting a Season 12.

I can’t wait to see what new and creative ways the writers of these shows will torture me next year!

entry #3 – current countdown 13 days, 3 hours, 49 minutes.

Hello again, Journal,

I won’t lie; the Hellatus is getting to me.  I’ve begun counting the minutes.  Sometimes, I feel like a prisoner marking time on a wall…. waiting for the Winchesters to come break me out of … well… my Hellatus.

I’ve begun to chew my nails, and the shakes are so bad now that I can barely type this entry.

I’ve been reading every single article I can find online about the show.  Including some with spoilers, a sin I know, but I just can’t help myself now.  One article I read this morning said that in episode 20 (titled Red Meat) that will air on March 30, Sammy gets shot!  However will I survive THAT?! … uh, sorry….I mean… However, will Dean survive THAT?!

Last night’s #HellaRewatch party on twitter went well.  It’s fun to commiserate with fellow addicts… uh… I mean … fans.   I’d like to give a shout out to a few of the loyal fans that have come along for the ride on Wednesday nights with me on twitter.  Lora @yoopergirl89 … @JBJBounce …. Lisa, @black88rose… and so many more.  You girls, ROCK!  Our next #HellaRewatch party will be Wednesday, March 16th at 8pm Central.  We’ll be re-watching episodes from S10… Fan Fiction (SPN’s love letter to the Famdom) and About A Boy.  Come join us, Journal… it’s a lot of fun.

Don’t be late though, Journal… I will start without you!

entry #2

Hello again, Journal.

The #HellaRewatch Party on twitter went well last night, but it’s not the same as when we get a new episode of The Show.  Although, I am happy to report that I still have at least 80% of my hair.

The shaking in my hands has subsided enough that I can manage to type this entry, but the body aches continue.  When The Show is in Hellatus, I suffer from phantom feels, much like amputees who say they can still feel pain in their limbs even though they’re no longer there.  The Hella Rewatch Party is helping with these problems slightly, but the inevitable crash when the party is over is almost worse than before we started.

One thing that has helped, and might help others suffering from Winchester Withdrawals is a little short film directed by  SPN Family member Ryan Curtis, and starring our very own Sheriff Donna, Briana Buckmaster.  There’s also voice appearances by other SPN alums Kim Rhodes and Adam Rose.  It’s a spooky movie that will satisfy your craving for the scary and only takes about 11 minutes to watch.  All you SPN fans can watch it here.

Thanks for listening to my whining, Journal, and you should join us on March 9th on twitter for another #HellaRewatch party… bring your friends.  We’ll be watching Yellow Fever and Weekend at Bobby’s.  It all starts at 8pm CST on twitter.

Oh, and I think it’s your turn to bring the popcorn.

Dear Journal,

The (mini) Spring Hellatus started the moment The Show ended last week.  I’ve been collecting my Hellatus Survival Kit ever since.  I’ve managed to get several links to some pretty decent fan fic.  I’ve watched #NashCon footage on Periscope…. And I’ve made my favorite episode list to begin rewatching this week.  I’ll be re-watching two episodes a week to help stave off the dreaded Hellatus Depression.  I’m considering live tweeting the episodes listed below, and you can join in the fun, Journal just by following me on twitter at @totalconfushun.  All the fun will start on twitter @ 8pm (US Central Time Zone) on March 3, then the same time every Winchester Wednesday.

Week 1 (March 2) – Mystery Spot (S3E11) & Lazarus Rising (S4E1)

Week 2 (March 9) – Yellow Fever (S4E6) & Weekend at Bobby’s (S6E4)

 Week 3 (March 16) – Fan Fiction (S10E5) & About A Boy (S10E12)

Supernatural 11.15 Beyond the Mat

Written by: John Bring and Andrew Dabb

Directed by:  Jerry Wanek

If you’re new to the show – Why aren’t you watching already?  No, seriously, if you’re new to the show, there’s a few things you should know.  First, it’s about two brothers named Sam and Dean Winchester who are hunters… not the normal kind of hunters.  Hunters that hunt all the things that go bump in the night.  And second, that Family Don’t End With Blood…. that’s actually the overall theme of the show.

Now… why aren’t you watching the show?  Not a good enough answer.

Warning:  There be spoilers ahead!

This episode was what the fandom refers to as a Monster of the Week (MotW) episode.  The guys took a break from fighting the Big Bad for this season (The Darkness – Amara, played by the talented Emily Swallow) to handle a petty demon.  Because as Sam says “The world’s still gonna be screwed tomorrow, right?”.

Dean sees an obituary for a childhood hero, and the boys decide to make “the day’s drive” to pay their respects.  But, of course, paying their respects turns into a case.  At the funeral, Dean and Sam meet some of their childhood heroes.  In the funeral scene be sure to look for the cameo appearance by Clif Kosterman, J2’s bodyguard.  Turns out, one of those heroes, Gunnar Lawless (played by guest star Aleks Paunovic) isn’t all that heroic.  Special guest star, Mike ‘The Miz’ Mizanin plays newcomer upstart  wrestler Shawn Harley.

Throughout the episode we get glimpses of Crowley’s ‘Summer Vacation in Hell’ with Lucifer/Castiel.  My, how the mighty have fallen.  We see the former King of Hell on his knees scrubbing the floor with a toothbrush, no less.  As the Crowley Capers play out, we see glimpses of the old King of Hell as he tries to make his play and take out Lucifer.

Some of the best scenes of the show involve Dean fanboy’ing over ‘Top Notch Wrestling’, complete with his playing in the ring….played so well by Jensen Ackles.  But, let’s not forget Jared’s Sam who manages to get all gushy over his first crush, former ring girl Rio, played by Jackie Debatin.  I giggled over Dean calling Sam out for having a poster of Rio over his bed when he was a kid.  Gunnar Lawless gives Dean the advice that you “gotta keep on grinding no matter what you do”, which leads to Dean’s speech at the end of the episode … The Keep On Grinding speech that fans have heard in previous promos for the show.  Misha Collins gets to channel his best Tommy Lee Jones as Lucifer/Castiel quotes The Fugitive with the Hen house, Outhouse, and Dog house speech.

But, the best line of the episode goes to Jensen Ackles as Dean says, “Did he get in a tickle fight with Edward Scissorhands?”

The worst part of the episode is that it’s the last new one until March 23.
