The CW In Bed With Netflix Now

cw netflix

Whether you’re a fan of “the comic book” shows like Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl or shows like The 100… maybe you’re a vampire lover and can’t do without The Vampire Diaries and The Originals… or maybe you’re a Supernatural addict like me…. or all of the above… this is a deal that will probably make you do back flips.  At least, as it pertains to your binge watching habits.

Beginning with the 2016 – 2017 seasons, whole seasons of CW shows will be available 8 days after the finale airs.  EIGHT DAYS!

This is all well and good for all the binge watchers…. right?

But what about the people that just miss one episode?  You know, the ones that had a DVR malfunction…. or had breaking news locally that interrupted their favorite show.  The ones that caught the show the next day on Hulu.  Yeah.  Well, you’re all SOL.  Hulu’s current contract expires with The CW in early October, right before the premiers of most of the networks biggest shows…. including Supernatural.  That contract will not be renewed; the deal between the network and everyone’s favorite binge watching site is an exclusive deal.  That’s right, they aren’t just dating, ladies and gentlemen…. they got married.  It’s a strictly monogamous deal now.

The only place you’ll be able to catch next day airings if you miss last night’s episode is on the commercial filled CW website or their apps.  But, hey, if you miss that favorite show, it’s worth a few commercials to get to see it the next day…. right?

We want to hear your opinion!  Sound off about this deal in the comments below.

Will Romance Bloom in Legends of Tomorrow Sn 2?

lot

Rumors are abounding when it comes to possible love interests for Legends of Tomorrow’s crew in Season 2.  Showrunner Marc Guggenheim teases us in TV Line that romantic seeds will be planted.  Since Martin Stein (Victor Garber) is married, Rip (Arthur Darvill) is more or less in mourning,  and the Hawks would be a dead end even if they were still part of the regular cast, that leaves Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh), Mick Rory (Dominic Purcell), Jax (Franz Drameh) or Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) to be the focus of a romantic entanglement. Constantine Is BACK! Could We Be In Line For A Tv Series Return?

Constantine_Show-e1399833122634

Constantine fans rejoice! The show is back, although sadly it’s not back for a second series, with the news that CW have acquired the show and are showing it for FREE (yes free) on CW Seed, this had sparked a frenzy of rumors that the show could be coming back.

Now don’t get me wrong I love El Rey, they are constantly putting shows out there of top quality that may not have got picked up elsewhere, they are also the home of the number one wrestling promotion right now Lucha Underground. That’s why I trusted them 100% or that was until the pulled the plug on Constantine. I don’t understand the reasons for it, but needless to say I went into a Firefly like state of denial before finally coming to terms with the shows demise quite recently.

So why have CW picked up the show? Well they already have an impressive array of shows in Supergirl, Riverdale, Frequency, Beauty And The Beast and oh yeah most importantly Arrow, to name but a few. yes I know I left out Vampire Diaries, The Flash, The Originals, Legends Of Tomorrow and The 100. I feel that this was less about the chance of reviving the show but more about stocking up on it’s DC heavy content.

It makes sense for CW to get the rights to the show after all it owns most if not all of the other DC television adaptations. Plus what’s more within the DC Universe there are frequent crossovers, so when you’re watching Arrow and John Constantine makes an appearance you know he’s the number one badass in exorcism and the demonic black arts.

Could the fact the show has been picked up, mean we could be in for a long awaited and much hoped for second series? Well in reality sadly not, as the cast and crew were released from their contracts once negotiations to try and save the show had failed. Although with the news that the Dark Justice League is set to be animated rather than live action, there may be a tiny sliver of hope.

Constantine, however, did pop up in Arrow’s fourth season when he was brought in by Oli to try and resolve the Sara Lance Lazarus Pit problem. Let’s face it he stole the show in that one episode and CW you would be mad not to pick this series up, then again you didn’t renew The Secret Circle so I’m not holding out any hope.

Just incase you miss our favourite exorcist, here’s the official trailer from the show below

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Spoilers!

rsz_albert-einstein

According to stories making the rounds, the Waverider and crew, led by Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill), are on track to meet up with Albert Einstein in 1942. Details on the story line are vague, but TV Line reveals that the team, especially  Martin Stein (Victor Garber) and Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh), is in for some disillusionment. [Read more…]

The CW & Netflix Making a Deal

thecw

I’ve been reading a lot lately about the deal that The CW is hammering out with Netflix.  Variety and several other websites have done articles about the deal in the last several days, and there’s a few points that all of you that watch the shows on the network (including Supernatural, Arrow, and The Flash) need to know.

  • The deal would be “exclusive” to Netflix.  With the exception of The CW showing the “rolling 5” on their website and other media (apps, etc), Netflix would be the only place to watch the shows.  In other words, no more watching shows the next day on Hulu…. which is a real bummer to me, since that was where I watched next day stuff whenever I missed it for whatever reason the night before.
  • Netflix would have the newest complete season just weeks after the finale.  This is a big deal.  You would then be able to stream whole seasons of shows like Supernatural, Arrow, Vampire Diaries and The Originals in less than 2 weeks from their finales.
  • The Hulu contract expires in October.  Hulu wasn’t willing to re-up their contracts without being able to stream all episodes in a stacking deal, but the network wouldn’t agree to that, so Hulu bowed out.

Five years ago, when The CW and Netflix first became friends, The CW didn’t have nearly as much bargaining power as they have now, but with the popularity of their comic book super hero shows like Arrow and The Flash and the longest running genre show on television… Supernatural (starting Season 12 in October) they’ve got some major pull at the bargaining table.  So, when they unveil the deal later this week, I’m sure both parties will be happy with the outcome.

But will the viewers?

New Heroes And A Villain For DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow

With the move from regular to recurring role of Wentworth Miller aka Captain Cold, and the exit of Hawk duo Ciara Renee & Falk Hentschel, the crew of the WaveRider is a little light for the upcoming Season 2. The news currently making the rounds is that Mari McCabe aka Vixen is being cast from the past, and that Nick Zano (Cougar Town, Minority Report) will be enlisting as Dr. Nate Heywood. Nate is a historian and the grandson of Henry Heywood – WWII superhero Commander Steel and a member of the JSA. The Season 1 finale of LoT hinted very strongly (broad side of a barn door strongly, lol) at the appearance of the JSA in season 2, thanks to a second WaveRider that Rex Tyler (Patrick J Adams) crashed in front of our team.

DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow Season 2 News!!

legendsheader.jpg

With the departure of Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) (sob!) and Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee), our lovable time travelling misfit crew of  Legends will need replacements.

Good news first! Word has it that one of these replacements will be Vixen, that lady granted a very special bond with animals via the magical Tantu Totem, supposedly created by  the African Trickster God, Anansi the Spider.

Vixen aka Mari McCabe has already made a live action appearance in the Arrowverse, helping Ollie (Stephen Amell) and Team Arrow to save his son but here is where the bad news bit comes in. Megalyn Echikunwoke, the actress whose role this has been since the inception of the animated CW Seed series, is not available to play Vixen for Legends. Her career has taken off, and she just plain will not have the time to be a Legends regular. She will be able to continue with her voiceover for the animated series. Rumor has it that she may even be able to make a guest appearance or two on any of the CW’s Arrowverse shows.

rsz_arrowvixen
However, and this is important, Vixen will NOT be recast for Legends. The role will instead involve an older Vixen, who may or may not be related to Mari McCabe. The infinite possibilities of time travel means that there could be a Vixen team up at some point.

At this point the role has not yet been cast. Stay tuned to Skatronixxx.com for news relating to Vixen, and other possible characters for the upcoming Legends season. In the meantime, who do you think should be cast as the older Vixen? What other DC characters would you like to see either as guest appearances or regulars?

Just in case you missed this badass woman on Arrow….

Supernatural Fandom Has Wayward Daughters

wayward daughters 1

It began as whispers that blew across The Fandom like a gentle breeze fanning a spark into a glowing ember, but it soon became a raging wildfire that blew like hurricane force winds.  There’s no stopping it now…. and who would want to?  Stop it that is.

Of course, I’m talking about Wayward Daughters.  Like most works of true brilliance, it began as a tiny little idea.  An idea for a spin off of The Show featuring the strong female characters of Sheriff Donna (played by Briana Buckmaster) and Sheriff Jody (played by Kim Rhodes)… but it morphed into so very much more.

The Wayward Daughters Academy, a movement started by fans Riley and Betty (follow them on twitter @WaywardAcademy) included a petition signed by fans asking The CW for the spin off I mentioned.  Now though… it’s so much more.  It’s a movement (from their twitter page) that is Empowering women, supporting girls, uplifting each other and dedicated to furthering positive representation.  They boldly ask you #WhatsYourWayward and encourage you to be #WaywardAF.

The living breathing embodiment of Wayward Daughters… the sexy symbols of the movement…. are BFF’s Kim and Briana who are the best of role models for women everywhere.  I follow both of them on twitter and tumblr… and I get words of encouragement sprinkled with some of my favorite curse words from them both everyday.  I used to say that I loved Kim Rhodes because she said f**k as much as I do.  But, that’s not the only reason.  Along with Briana, she is one of the most inspirational celebrities that I can think of in ….. well…. ever.  And as for Briana’s and Kim’s friendship?  That’s true #RelationshipGoals right there.

Currently, there is a t-shirt campaign going on through Creation Stands, raising money for Random Acts and to build a Free High School in Nicaragua for young women (which is a RandomActs Dreams2Acts initiative).  Check out the campaign here.  And by all means, buy a shirt or bag while you’re there.

Webster defines wayward as:  not going or moving in the intended direction, following no clear principle or law – unpredictable, even ungovernable.

Well then.  There you have it.  By Webster’s definition, I am sooooo #WaywardAF.  And, Kim told me I was last night on tumblr too, so it must be true.  You should all… women everywhere… step out of the box that society has tried to stuff you into for your entire life, define your own space, be your beautiful self, never change to suit someone else.  In short, be #WaywardAF.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go buy a t-shirt.

**This… THIS… is another reason why I’m so proud to be a fan of The Show**

‘Riverdale’ Coming Soon!

riverdale.jpg

Riverdale is an upcoming drama series that is loosely based on the characters published by Archie Comics. The show was ordered to series by The CW in February 2016. It will premiere in during the 2016-2017 midseason alongside The CW’s fan favorites like iZombie and The 100. The show is being described as “a surprising and subversive take on Archie, Betty, Veronica, and their friends, exploring the surrealism of small town life — the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome façade.”

Riverdale will star K.J Apa as the protagonist Archie Andrews. Other cast members include Lili Reinhart (Surving Jack), Camila Mendes (Randy Doe), Luke Perry (Beverley Hills 902010), Madelaine Petsch (The Hive), Olivia Ryan Stern (Continuum), Colo Sprouse (Friends), Madchen Amick (Twin Peaks) and Ashley Murray (Welcome To New York).

Greg Berlanti who has made his mark in Hollywood as the creator and producer of The CW superhero series’ will serve as an executive producer alongside Sarah Schechter, Jon Goldwater and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who wrote the pilot that was directed by Lee Toland Krieger. Riverdale will be produced and distributed by Warner Bros Television Distribution.

Take a look at the official synopsis below:-

‘As a new school year begins, the town of Riverdale is reeling from the recent, tragic death of high school golden boy Jason Blossom, and nothing feels the same. Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) is still the all-American teen, but the summer’s events made him realize that he wants to pursue a career in music — not follow in his dad’s footsteps—despite the sudden end of his forbidden relationship with Riverdale’s young music teacher, Ms. Grundy (Sarah Habel).

Which means Archie doesn’t have anyone who will mentor him — certainly not singer Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), who is only focused on her band, the soon- to-be- world-famous Pussycats. It’s all weighing heavily on Archie’s mind — as is his fractured friendship with budding writer and fellow classmate Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse). Meanwhile, girl-next- door Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) is anxious to see her crush Archie after being away all summer, but she’s not quite ready to reveal her true feelings to him. And Betty’s nerves — which are hardly soothed by her overbearing mother Alice (Mädchen Amick) aren’t the only thing holding her back.

When a new student, Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes), arrives in town from New York with her mother Hermione (Marisol Nichols), there’s an undeniable spark between her and Archie, even though Veronica doesn’t want to risk her new friendship with Betty by making a play for Archie. And then there’s Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch)… Riverdale’s Queen Bee is happy to stir up trouble amongst Archie, Betty, and Veronica, but Cheryl is keeping secrets of her own. What, exactly, is she hiding about the mysterious death of her twin brother, Jason? Riverdale may look like a quiet, sleepy town, but there are dangers in the shadows…’

Riverdale is set to premiere during 2016-2017 midseason.

Arrow SN4 EP23 – ‘Schism’

rsz_the-green-arrow

It’s time for your latest Arrow review! This episode was directed by John Behring. If the episode’s name doesn’t foreshadow what is to come, then I don’t know what does. For those of you wondering, schism basically means two strongly opposed parties —in this case, Team Arrow and Star City v. Darhk and his men.

The episode begins with Darhk knocking Curtis unconscious, choke-holding Felicity’s mom, and threatening to suck the life out of her unless Felicity were to hand over Rubicon. Suddenly Oliver and Diggle appear and save them, but Darhk steals the laptop and launches over 15,000 nuclear missiles. The team has two hours to prevent worldwide annihilation. Damn Darhk. The citizens of Star City start rioting in the streets with the chaos of the “end of the world.”

Oliver has an epic moment, and while standing atop a car he addresses the citizens inspiring hope in them to stay strong. The missile is spotted in the sky above them, and it approaches closer and closer, but Felicity and Curtis divert the missile.

Oliver then goes after Darhk, while Felicity, Merlyn, and Thea track down Rubicon to a secret location. It turns out Cooper, Felicity’s ex, is helping Darhk with the program against his will. Felicity convinces Cooper to stop helping Darhk and save the world which he does, and falls to the floor in a painful death. Curtis thinks of a creative way to stop the missiles, by basically flipping the world, so the missiles head up instead of down.

Thanks to all the citizens of Star City believing in Oliver, he is now an even match for Darhk’s powers. Let the arse kicking begin! Oliver fights Darhk, and the citizens fight Darhk’s remaining men. The fight ends with Oliver killing Darhk.

Afterward the group has a discussion, Lance, Thea, and Diggle decide to leave the team for new lives, and Oliver is appointed Mayor. In flashbacks to the island, Reiter and Taiana fight; Taiana is able to drain Reiter’s life force enough for Oliver to kill him, but she becomes overwhelmed with darkness in the process. She begs Oliver to kill her, and he finally obliges. Oliver radios Amanda Waller who comes with helicopters to rescue the rest of the prisoners and keep the idol safe.

Did you like the season finale? Have any favourite parts? I know it’s a bit cheesy, but I liked how the citizens of Star City joined team Arrow in the fight. Are you excited to see Ollie as mayor? Do you think Lance, Thea, and Diggle will be able to stay away from the excitement next season? Comment, share and like below or tweet me @SohoDoll. And if you don’t… well, “You have failed this city!”
