So on Saturday we were treated to UFC 201 here are the results and brief review of the fights the headliner was a Welterweight Championship match up between ‘Ruthless’ Robbie Lawler and Tyron ‘The Chosen One’ Woodley.

Ryan ‘Baby Faced’ Benoit vs Fredy ‘El Profe’ Serrano
The first fight of the evening was a flyweight match up between Ryan Benoit who took the fight on 10 days notice and Fredy Serrano the fight started off quickly with both fighters catching each other with a kick from Benoit and a right hook from Serrano. This was followed up with two large take down slams from Serrano, a few more shots were thrown by Serrano but they were telegraphed so easily avoided by Benoit at the end of round one Benoit hit Serrano with a shot after the buzzer which Serrano did not take kindly to.
Round 2 kicked off and Serrano carried on the same way as the first trying big shots and axe kicks, Serrano slammed Benoit to the mat yet again but Benoit managed to break free from the bottom. Serrano gets to his feet with a cut head and starts swinging for the fences again, Serrano attempted another take down attempt but failed to capture Benoit. Serrano took Benoit down for the 4th time in the fight and Serrano was dropping his hip from top control which is the first time I have seen this happen the round ended with the pair on there feet trading shots.
The third and final round gets underway Serrano begins the fight by taken Benoit down for the fifth time in the fight not much was happening and the ref decided to get the fighters back to there feet. Serrano attempted and extremely low take down almost crawling and Benoit almost cleaned him out with a knee to the head. Serrano attempted to grapple Benoit but failed and Benoit caught him with a spinning back fist but it did not do much damage. Benoit caught Serrano with a good kick and then an uppercut. Towards the end of the fight Benoit caught Serrano with a big punch but could not finish the fight and the fight ends with it going to the judges scorecard.
The winner by split decision Ryan ‘Baby Faced’ Benoit

Erik ‘Goyito’ Perez vs Francisco ‘Cisco’ Rivera
The second fight of the evening was a Bantamweight fight between Erik Perez and Francisco Rivera the first round started off a bit slow Rivera managed to land 2 good left hooks on Perez. Perez attempted a leg kick but this was blocked with ease by Rivera, Rivera manages to then land a decent let kick and follows up with another. Rivera attempted a body kick but this was caught by Rivera who landed some good shots whilst still holding the leg, Perez attempted a take down but could only manage to push Rivera up against the cage. Perez seemed to loosen up a bit towards the last 30 seconds of the fight and managed to land a few good shots and the round came to an end, all in all not a very interesting first round.
Round 2 gets under way Perez forces a slip by Rivera with a good inside leg kick, the pair exchange kicks in the centre of the Octagon and then Perez attempts a spinning back fist but just missed the connection. Perez attempted a take down but miss timed this and was tossed against the side of the cage by Rivera, Rivera attempted a body kick but this was caught by Perez. The pair change a few shots and after a good leg kick Perez takes Rivera down against the cage and lands some good body shots before attempting a guillotine just before the buzzer goes to end the round.
Round 3 gets off to the best start yet with Perez was goading Rivera and the pair just came out swinging for each other so much so that Rivera punched himself out and hit the deck exhausted. He got up but Perez took advantage of his fatigued state and floored him against the cage and there was plenty of blood pouring from the cut head of Rivera the crowd urged the referee to stand the pair up but as Perez was throwing punches the ref let him continue. Rivera looked like he could not even stand even if the ref was to stand the fight up Perez was sat on top of him landed punches to the body. The pair eventually got to there feet and continued to throw punches at each other for the remaining 10 seconds of the fight. If the whole fight had been as interesting as this round then I don’t think it would have gotten to round 3.
Winner by unanimous decision Erik ‘Goyito‘ Perez

Jake ‘The Juggernaut’ Ellenberger vs Matt ‘The Immortal’ Brown
The third fight of the evening was a Welterweight bout between Joe Ellenberger and Matt Brown. Right off the bat the pair go straight for the kill and Ellenberger tagged Brown with a great shot that put him down on the mat. The pair get to there feet and Ellenberger lands a good shot against the cage. Brown managed to recover and takes a bit more control of the fight but this didn’t last long as Ellenberger landed a savage kick to the body that took all the wind out of the sails of Brown and then began to land shot after shot to the head of Brown before the ref stepped in to end the fight.
Winner by TKO Jake ‘The Juggernaut’ Ellenberger

Karolina Kowalkiewicz vs Rose ‘Thug’ Namajunas
The forth fight of the evening was a Strawweight bout between Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Rose Namajunas. The first round gets under way and the pair spend the first minute just feeling each other out and getting there range correct. Kowalkiewicz lands a leg kick but Namajunas replies with a jab to the body, Namajunas then lands a nice jab to the jaw of Kowalkiewicz and then follows this up with a nice one two. Kowalkiewicz attempts a punch kick como but misses, but then managed to land a nice leg kick on Namajunas. Kowalkiewicz attempts a jab but Namjunas ducks this and lands a punch combo, the pair clinch and Namajunas lands a knee but Kowalkiewicz lands three in return as the round comes to an end.
Round 2 gets under way Namajunas comes out and lands a nice jab to the head of Kowalkiewicz and then Kowalkiewicz gets Namajunas in another clinch and lands some more knees followed by two elbows. The pair end up against the cage with Kowalkiewicz landing some more knees. Namjunas lands a good front body kick which make Kowalkiewicz stumble. They end up in another clinch and the pair exchange knees, Kowalkiewicz lands a good right over the top to the head of Namajunas and then they clinch again and more knees are exchanged. Kowalkiewicz lands another knee and Namajunas replies with a good right hand, just before the end of the round Namajunas attempts a flying knee.
Round 3 Kowalkiewicz attempts a spinning back kick but misses but follows ups with some more good knees, Kowalkiewicz attempts a punch kick combo and manages to get some success from this. Namajunas lands a good right hand but Kowalkiewicz replies with some more knees to the body and lands a good right hook which puts Namajunas on the mat and then Kowalkiewicz takes top control and manages to avoid an attempt at a leg lock and then an arm bar. Kowalkiewicz attempts to stand up to get some more leverage and Namajunas catches her with some good up kicks from the floor and then attempts a triangle but Kowalkiewicz manages to avoid this attempt the pair get to there feet and exchange punches before the final buzzer goes.

‘Ruthless’ Robbie Lawler vs Tyron ‘The Chosen One’ Woodley
The main event of the event of the evening was the Welterweight Title Fight between Robbie Lawler and Tryon Woodley both fighters fight out of the same American Top Team gym so was set to be an explosive match up.

The fight gets underway and Lawler take control of the centre of the Octagon and the pair circle each other waiting to explode some shit are thrown but none really land and they end up against the cage the ref is quick to break them up. Woodley presses the action but Lawler doesn’t bite Woodley has enough of hanging around and lands a shattering right hook to the jaw of Lawler who goes crashing down against the cage. Woodley then swarms Lawler and unleashes a barrage of punches to the head of Lawler and the ref steps in to declare the fight over.
