Troubled by her confrontation with Chick, Norma tries to call Caleb but the number she has for him is disconnected. Norma tells Romero how happy she is with him, it warms my heart that Norma has found a man who is good to her. Norman is having dreams of being trapped under a bed with the room shaking violently around him and items are falling to the floor breaking around him. In his session with Dr. Edwards, he is asked if he knows what happens when he blackouts but Norman has no idea, Dr. Edwards goes on to explains that when a child has a traumatic life experiences, they disappear inside them, Dr. Edwards also tell Norman that during their last session the person he spoke to wasn’t Norman but his mother Norma, he asks Norman if he was aware of slipping into her persona and Norman tells him that he was aware of it, Dr. Edwards tries to get him to talk about his early life, but he can’t remember much except for his dad being gone a lot and spending a lot of time with his mother.

Norma hesitantly meets with Chick at a diner and he wants her to admit the sins of her past. Dylan visits Norman at Pineview as they play croquet together, Norman asks about Emma and Dylan tells him she is getting better and says he has to tell him something, but Norman guesses they’re together and really seems to be ok with it. Norman quickly changes the subject and asks Dylan what his dad, Sam was like, Dylan tells him that he wasn’t nice to Norma. Dylan goes home and tells Norma that Norman seems to be doing well, he also says that he is leaving town in a few days with Emma and her dad, Norma asks if he has heard from Caleb or if he knows where he is but Dylan tells her to leave it alone but mentions the name of the motel Caleb used to work at.

Norman’s in therapy and is remembering being only 7 years old when his mother told him to hide in his room because his father had been drinking, Dr. Edwards wants to know more about Norman’s father, but “Norma” appears and tells Norman that he doesn’t have to talk about things that upset him and Dr. Edwards quickly realizes “she” is there and watches as Norman slips into his “Mother” persona, telling the good Dr that “she” needs to protect her son and that’s she doesn’t want Norman to remember these things. “Mother N” apologizes for not knowing the monster she married and revealed that one night her and Norman tried to leave one night but they couldn’t find Dylan and unfortunately Sam caught up with them and forced Norma to drive home with a gun to her head, he then Violently rapes her while they young Norman is hiding under their bed and heartbreaking he reaches out and holds Norma’s hand through the traumatic ordeal.

Norma meets Chick on a bridge that evening and attempts to shoot him but can’t bring herself to pull the trigger and drives off, she is pissed off and loses her temper while she’s cooking dinner and is interrupted by Dylan who has returned home to pack up some of his belongings. Dylan puts a photograph of himself and Norma in her room and stumbles upon the bunny toy and letter Emma’s mother wanted to be given to her, he goes into the motel office and checks the list of bookings and discovers Audrey had checked in but never checked out and takes note of the home address. Romero arrives home, but when he mentions that Chick has arrived with the repaired window, Norma’s mood changes and not for the better, She yells at Chick that’s she is still standing so do your worst, after Chick leaves Romero clearly confused asks Norma what that was all about and she breaks down and admits what happened in her past: her affair, her brother, how Chick knew Caleb and Dylan and threatened to expose her secret around town. She tells Romero that he should pack his bags and his reply is “where are we going”. He’s a keeper Norma, its nice to watch them become a couple in love.

This episode was full of emotions some were happy but some were absolutely heartbreaking which managed to get the salty liquid flowing freely and it takes a lot to get me to well up. We have some trouble brewing now Dylan knows Emma’s mother checked in but never checked out some very interesting episodes to follow. Well see you here the same time next week.

batesmotel404

Firstly WOW what an episode….. It just gets better and better and better each episode! Bates Motel totally has me as we say in Aus ” hook, line & sinker”.  But before we get into episode 4 here is a quick recap of episode 3…..

‘Till Death Do You Part’ SN4 EP3
Norma and Romero tie the knot, Norman tries to except his new circumstances and Dylan tries to shed old business. Ok moving on to the latest Bates episode…

‘Lights of Winter’ SN4 EP4
So the episode open with Norman in his room, he begins to have visions of his mother hitting his father over the head and visions of Blaire Watson, Norman snaps out of it when one of the staff bring his morning meds. Norman wants to leave Pineview but he is told he cannot leave without taking his medication, he takes his meds but as soon as the staff member leaves Norman makes himself throw up. Julian help Norman break into the night staff’s office so he can make a phone call, Norman gets a hold of Dylan and tell him that Norma is in danger, he also tells Dylan he is being released from Pineview today but when Dylan questions Norman, it angers him and he then hangs up.

Meanwhile Norma is acting odd with Romero, he suggests that they open a joint account to make the marriage look more real, he goes on to invite Norma to the towns winter festival. You can see she wants to say yes, but declines as she is visiting Emma and may not be back in time. Norma leaves the house and sits in the car for a minute with a smile like that she is thinking of her new husband no doubt, Norm is smitten and perhaps falling for the handsome Sheriff, the only man who has treated her with kindness. Norman is being difficult and won’t attend his group therapy session, his reasons for not attending is he believes he is being released today, but it seems no one at Pineview got that memo. Dr Edwards steps in and assures him he has reported Norman suspicious to authorities but urges Norman to continue his session, a pissed off Norman has had enough and tries to walk out the front door although his attempt is unsuccessful, but Julian tells him he can get him out if he want to.

Emma tells Dylan she and her father are moving to Seattle so she can attend the best respiratory rehabilitation center and to start university and she asks Dylan if he would want go to Seattle with them and Dylan takes the leap and decides to go to Seattle with them. He would be stupid not to, this is his chance to do something better with his life. Norma visits with Emma and she tell Norma that Dylan keeps her updated on Norman, She told Norma that she is doing the right thing for Norman and maybe its time for her to let go a little and start looking after herself for a change. Norma needed to hear that and she knows it’s time for her to cut the cord from Norman and focus on herself and her new husband. Rebecca asks Romero point-blank if he killed Bob Paris, Romero brushes the question off, she goes on the tell him that Paris had $3 million stashed in a safe deposit box but you need two keys to open it, the bank has one and she bets his killer has the other. Romero cuts open the stash of money he has and finds the second key in a passport. Norma home from visiting Emma decides to take her advise and as she is changing, the photo of her beloved Norman catches her eye and she picks it up, then put it’s in the draw and closes it. She’s starting to embrace her new freedom!

Romero spots his new bride at the winter festival and he is taken with just how beautiful she looks, he tell her she looks beautiful and he’s glad she made it. While Romero is pulled away for a photo, Rebecca approaches Norma and introduces herself. Rebecca is clearly jealousy of Norma and thinks is should be her that married Romero. The Bates home has been broken into and trashed and Romero know why but don’t voice it. Julian and Norman decided tonight they will have freedom and break out of Pineview, they hitch a ride to the local strip club and it doesn’t take long before Julian is lead to the VIP lounge. Norman is feeling out-of-place when a cute stripper Athena gets his attention and leads him to the VIP lounge, Norman takes the screwdriver from his back pocket and places it on the table, while Athena tries to seduce him and in the blink of any eye he turns into Norma, seducing the stripper! Julian gets attacked but Norman can’t do anything but watch on helplessly, Dr Edwards finds Norman in the ambulance cuffed, he and Norman sit in the car and Norman breaks down and admitting he blackouts, Norman sobs and tell Dr Edwards he doesn’t know what real or not anymore and can he please help him.

We are starting to see the beginning of Norman’s split personality emerge and it makes for very interesting episodes, but i tell you my heart was breaking for him as he sat sobbing in the car asking for help. Rebecca is definitely one not to trust, she wants Romero for herself and hell have no fury like a woman scorned!! What did you guys think of this episode?

Bates Motel SN4 EP3 – ‘Till Death Do You Part’

bates

Quick recap of last weeks episode ‘Goodnight Mother’ SN4-EP2

So last week Norman and Norma each think that the others has committed a terrible deed, meanwhile Dylan thinks about his future with Emma. Remero Romero makes a choice that has a dramatic impact on the Bates family

Till Death Do You Part’ SN4-EP3

Ok so let’s get down to business……. Romero and Norma tie the knot albeit awkwardly, during the ceremony Norma tells the celebrant she can that part we’ve heard it before, I actually laughed out loud, they seal it with a kiss and you can see there is a little spark between them. Norman is at Pineview and struggling to accept his new circumstances. Now that Remero and Norma are married he tells her he has to moves some of his stuff into the Bates home so the marriage looks real.

Emma is getting better with each day, her and Dylan take a walk around the hospital and he tells her he is sick of growing weed and he wants to do something better with his life. While Norman is being shown around Pineview, he spots a woman wearing pearls and he gets a little twinkle in his eyes as if he is reminiscing killing Miss Watson (Keegan Connor Tracy). Dr. Edwards asks Norman if he has ever been in therapy and Norman tells Dr.Edward, he believes that his mother is the problem not him. While having dinner another young man Julian sit with Norman and strikes up a conversation. Definitely foresee trouble ahead if they become friend’s they are both unstable.

As they have drinks, Norma tells Romero this is her 3rd marriage and with a little more alcohol she opens up about parts of her past. Remero tells Norma he was married once before while in the Marines, when they get home he helps a tipsy Norma up to bed and says “goodnight Mrs Remero” Norma quickly replies “I’m keeping my name”. The following morning Norma wakes to find a wedding present of a coffee machine in the kitchen with a note attached saying he called some one to fill the pit. One of the nurses asks Norman if he would like to participate in yoga, he replies that he would rather stick pins in his eyes. One of the men filling in the pit hands Norma an earing – an earing that belonged to Audrey Decody (Emma’s mother).

As Dylan gets to the farm, Gunner (Keenan Tracey) is about to leave for California saying he is quitting. Dylan calls Emma and complains that Gunner had quit, he wanted to fire him as he had prepared himself for it. Romero returns home to find his ex girlfriend there, when she tries to kiss him, he tells her he got married widow Norma Bates. Before she leaves she asks him about Bob Paris, as she hasn’t heard from him since the DEA stormed his house. She is worried she might be in danger, but Remero reassure her she’s safe. Remero returns home to Norma’s with Bob Paris’s money.
Dylan goes home to see his mother and she tells him she married Romero, she believes that Remero doesn’t like her but I beg to differ there is definitely little sparks starting, she is also worried about Norman and leaving him at Pineview, but Dylan reassure’s her she has done the right thing. Norman has another session with Dr. Edwards, and tells him he has blackouts occasionally and can’t he just give him medication for them, he goes on to tell Dr. Edwards that he never wants to upset his mother, because she is the most wonderful person in the world and that he is in Pineview because of her, when Norman is asked why he is so angry at her if he loves her that much, he breaks down and starts ranting before storming out of the room.

Norma arrives at Pineview and convinces Dr. Edwards to let her see Norman, even though it’s against Pineview policy but we all know how persuasive Norma can be when she wants something. Before she see Norman she removes the her rock from her finger, she finally gets to see Norman but he is not happy to see her and tells her as much, he tells her that he will never for give her for putting him in Pineview. A very upset Norma returns home and Romero comforts her, then they kiss and Remero tries to stop her but she tells him it’s what she wants and he carries her upstairs and you can all use your imagination for what would have happened once upstairs. After seeing his mother Norman storms into Dr. Edwards office, but his behavior lands hin into solitary confinement. Norman tells Dr. Edwards that he believes his mother is insane and maybe killing people, a surprised Dr. Edwards tells Norman that such an accusation warrants being reported and investigated to which Norman agrees.

Call me crazy but I think Romero and Norma might just work, I have always thought they an undeniable chemistry, and after this episode you definitely see little sparks between them. Let me know your thoughts on this episode. Check back next week for episode 4, i know i can’t wait! It just keeps getting better and better each episode.
